At The Financial Wellbeing Agency, we provide free confidential, impartial financial counselling to those in need. Our commitment is to empower individuals facing financial distress, ensuring they have access to the support they need to enable them to achieve financial self-sufficiency.
TFWA provides free, trauma-informed financial counselling through funding from aligned charities and partners. Our financial counsellors are paid professionals, but TFWA is never paid based on client outcomes—ensuring services stay independent, ethical, and client-focused.

Led by qualified professionals with over 30 years’ experience across financial counselling, professional advisory, and community services, TFWA partners with charities, NGOs, and sector agencies to fill service gaps and support ethical, inclusive reform.

How is TFWA funded, and does it cost anything to access support?
TFWA provides free, confidential, and impartial financial counselling service. We do not charge clients, accept commissions, or promote financial products or services. Our work is made possible through ethically aligned partnerships, including government contracts, philanthropic grants, and collaborative sector initiatives. These funding sources support our trauma-informed programs and allow us to operate in accordance with ASIC’s credit licensing exemption and the Australian Financial Counselling Code of Ethical Practice. We are committed to transparent governance, legal compliance, and ensuring that all advice is delivered solely in the client’s best interests—without financial influence or obligation.
Does The Financial Wellbeing Agency require a credit licence?
No. TFWA operates under the ASIC exemption for financial counselling services, meaning we do not require an Australian Credit Licence or Financial Services Licence. This exemption applies because our services are free, independent, and designed to support vulnerable individuals and small businesses in financial hardship. We do not offer credit products, charge fees, or provide financial advice regulated under the Corporations Act or the National Consumer Credit Protection Act.
How does TFWA uphold ethical practice in financial counselling?
TFWA aligns with the Australian Financial Counselling Code of Ethical Practice, which sets out professional standards for respect, empowerment, non-discrimination, confidentiality, and advocacy. Our financial counsellors maintain clear boundaries, avoid conflicts of interest, and act with integrity in all client interactions. We do not offer advice outside our scope, and we prioritise transparency, professionalism, and social justice in every service we deliver.
How does TFWA protect client confidentiality and manage conflicts of interest?
TFWA upholds strict confidentiality in accordance with legal and ethical standards. Client information is only shared with consent or where legally required. We maintain secure data protocols and trauma-informed consent practices to protect privacy at every stage. We also actively identify and manage any potential conflicts of interest. Our financial counsellors do not accept commissions, referral fees, or incentives, and we do not promote specific financial products or services. All advice is impartial, client-led, and delivered in the client’s best interest.
